Rockbox - Open Source Jukebox Firmware

It installs a different Operating system on your Ipod(though it does not remove the IPod OS)

This gives you the ability to

-Have custom IPod Skins with custom fonts, backgrounds, and colors
-Adjust the eqaulization of the sound beyond the presets that the IPod OS uses.
-Play files off your IPods hard drive. This means you do not have to sync your Ipod and can use it as a normal MP3 player, with the ability to play files hat you drag and dropped to the IPod
-Ability to use database of MP3, this is a 2nd menu option that allows you to use your Ipod like you normally would, browsing by artist and album, rather than the file tree.
-Play a multitude of games, including a version of Doom ported for IPods
-Game Boy Emulator
-More Codec support, including WMA, OGG, FLAC, WAV, and AIFF, among others.
-Crossfeeding, fade-out, replay gain, and other audio effects
-Last.FM support
-Sleep Timer
-Wav to MP3 Encoder


Unfortunately, the new IPod 6th generation(Classic) is not supported yet, due to apple's encryption of the firmware.
However, all other Ipods dating back to the original 1st generation IPod support RockBox.
This is being worked on, and hopefully the 6th gen will be supported soon.

There is no risk...It's software. If it doesn't work you can plug it into the computer and open Itunes and it will reset.


It actually sets up a dual boot type system. You have to reset your IPod(Menu+Select) to boot into rockbox if you have ITunes installed on your computer.

I Hate ITunes. It's slow as fuck(No, It's not my computer) and it's really aa peice of shit, especially compared to WMP10(Which shits on 11 btw)

but Rockbox is pretty cool aside from the tons of useless shit they add on. lol @ thinking i want a program to watch a 3D box spin around.

and it doesn't fuck up your ipod guys don't worry. i just feel like it makes the battery go out quicker, which the site claims it doesn't

but anyway, just use a program for syncing your iPod ._.
