Why exactly are they better? Because they preach some self righteous holier than thou bullshit? Cuz they front like they were there "KEEPIN IT REAL IN 89 YO"? Cuz they lie and say they dont want money or beautiful women? You don't have to rap about money and women but you know what, that's what the majority of hip hop listeners (young men of all races) have an interest in. You may think it gets boring but so does bitching about how everybody that anybody cares about sucks. Wayne has more fresh ideas than 99% of the game right now, whether you like it or not. Who else makes a song like Phone Home? He makes songs that actually mean something like Georgia Bush, Tie My Hands, etc. He makes all kinds of songs, but you like most people so dead set against "commercial" music have selective hearing.
Big Daddy Kane did exactly the kind of things people bitch about now. He made girl records. He bragged about himself. Yet he's regarded (rightfully) as one of the greatest rappers of all time. Why is Lil Wayne any different (before you bitch like most "underground rulez" idiots like to do, im not saying Wayne is on Kane's level)? He's made great albums, several great mixtapes, and has shown on numerous occasions that he can flat out rap his ass off (Tha Mobb, BM Jr, Hustler Muzik, to just name a couple). I don't feel like arguing my point on Wayne or any other of these rappers to any more extent more than this but I think perhaps you should be looking in the mirror when it comes to hypocrisy.
People are allowed to change their mind. I've changed my mind literally hundreds of times on music, whether it was that I decided I like an artist now, or that I don't like one anymore. I used to dislike Lil Wayne, but my transition definitely wasn't an overnight one. If people weren't able to change their minds, drug addicts wouldn't be able to kick their addictions, racists wouldn't be able to reform, etc. This directly applies to music, although obviously less important than the examples I used.
