A girl has been killed after picking up a loaded gun, apparently mistaking it for a Wii Remote gun-style controller.

Three year-old Cheyenne Alexis McKeehan from Wilson County Tennessee died from a single self-inflicted shot to the abdomen from a .380 calibre semi-automatic pistol. The loaded firearm had been left on the coffee table in the living room of the girl’s house, after her stepfather thought he had heard a prowler outside.

According to the child’s mother, Cheyenne had been playing a Wii game that uses a gun peripheral - not one manufactured or approved by Nintendo (seen in the picture, underneath the handgun used in the shooting) - shortly before the accident occurred. The youngster was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe is investigating the case, although has not yet brought any charges relating to this tragic incident.

Well they are right, dumb ignorant are just gonna blame video games, the Wii, and the controller instead of the parents who let a 3 year old play a violent Wii game (out of all the Wii games...) AND on top of that leave a loaded gun at reach, with no safety.

has nothing to do with the video game......The gun should have been in a locked safe with trigger lock as well as having the safety on. Nintendo did the right thing by clarifying the fact it was not a licensed product because wine asses like you will attempt to link them with the story when in fact it had nothing to do with the WI. The child thought it was a fake gun and it wasn't...Its a fact of life you act irresponsible as a parent and those things will come back and haunt you.

Its actually a smart business move. They dont want to be associated with a product that has such realistic similiarities to an actual handgun. They dont want to be associated with a some shit that may have led to this little girls confusion.

Hell...any company would make it known that they have nothing to do with such an item if they genuinely dont.
